‘Shearers Arriving’ 20 x 30ins (51 x 76cm) Oil on stretched canvas Framed.

During the shearing season hordes of skilled shearers travelled from station to station on foot, on bicycles and some on horses. The distances were vast and swags heavy. The work was exhausting and living conditions pretty primitive but the pay was good. They started work at first light and often the bell would be rung or the boss would call out ‘Smoko’ and there would be three hours rest in the hottest part of the day before shearing recommenced until last light.
